SMS
Applications
SMS can be used &
incorporated to provide commercial services like news flashes,
sports, travel information like flight timings and status,
and more.
SMS
Applications can be built by interfacing them to an SMSC,
which is the central component in an SMS network. However
there are many SMSCs and each vendor’s SMSC supports
its own protocol. Standard protocols are not common and application
complexity increases due to varied protocols platforms &
environments.
SMS 'Gateway' allow applications
to be built on standard Internet development platforms by
translating SMSC specific protocols into industry standard
HTTP formats. The use of internet-based environment for SMS
applications also means that most standard HTML web-applications
can be easily adapted & used to start providing services
over SMS.
Short message services (SMS) are rapidly becoming must-have service requirements for today's subscribers. Person-to-person messaging must provide rapid, immediate communications among users. In addition to popular person-to-person messaging services, carriers also need the ability to offer server-to-person services, such as Televoting, ring-tones, missed call alerts, whitelist/blacklist services, mobile banking, information system and chatting applications.
All of these service offerings are "sticky" applications, which, once adopted, can drive usage and demand throughout user communities. Thus, it's important that carriers find cost-effective and flexible platform for developing and delivering these services. They need platforms that meet today's service requirements, but can expand quickly as the demand grows—and that can adapt to evolving network architectures and technologies
Today's messaging solutions need the ability to support a wide variety of messaging features, including person-to-person messaging and server-to-person services. SMS offers a lucrative source of new revenue, and the ability to customize, enhance and rapidly roll out these services to meet new market demands can dramatically accelerate the rapid adoption of these services, which in turn reduces subscriber turnover and creates new revenue streams,
